Surprise, surprise! On Day Three of the course, our rather quiet, unassuming colleague Christophe Rangoly turned out to be a famous slam artist with quite a following in Martinique! Just when we least expected it, he broke the silence, and whatever he had to say came out as a slam poem. Not to mention the times he performed upon request. Emotion was rife. Cricket for Dummies, huh?

Bawling, batting, fielding… Interpreters looked aghast when those words were first uttered, so much so that our coach interrupted his beautiful PowerPoint presentation and used simple sketches to enlighten us on the basics of his sport. Interpreters were quick to master the jargon and even became aficionados.

Never mind cricket and its complicated rules. Road tennis was an instant hit – no wonder, as it can easily be played on any flat surface before bothering with the theory!
