Mia Mottley makes headlines again… May 2024

Mia Mottley award

According to a press release from the World Health Organisation’s newsroom, in the lead up to the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly held in Geneva last week, Barbados Prime Minister was presented the WHO Director-General’s Award for Global Health in recognition of her leadership in climate action and health and her work as the Chair of the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

"Prime Minister Mottley's exemplary leadership in fighting for a more equitable, just and sustainable world is inspiring. WHO considers climate change to be the greatest health threat facing humanity. Her tireless efforts for climate action help protect the health of all peoples, now and in the future," said WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

This award comes also as a recognition for Mia Mottley’s role as chair of the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), one of the ten top global public health threats according to WHO. Through relentless advocacy on the international level, Barbados Prime Minister calls for prioritized political actions for the mitigation of drug resistant infections through responsible and sustainable access to and use of antimicrobials.
