Want to get work done while having fun? Sign up now for “English in the Caribbean », a course which will be offered for the second time in Barbados, from January 6 to 17, 2020! Specially designed by  conference interpreters and translators (Jihane Sfeir - AIIC  member and Sandra Hamilton - AIIC member + President of the Translators' and Interpreters Association of Jamaica - TIA) for conference interpreters and translators, in collaboration with the Centre for English Language Learning (CELL) of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, Barbados, “English in the Caribbean” is an opportunity for you to discover the culture of the Caribbean while perfecting your English. 
The programme will spread out over 2 weeks with 50 hours of thematic and language classes, an interactive online course and an e-forum. It will also include meetings with experts, cultural visits and transport. Optional after-class activities  will also be organized for you to enjoy "the gem of the Caribbean sea"  

Objectives

  • To broaden your knowledge of English-speaking cultures

  • To discover the culture and history of the Caribbean through the history of Barbados

  • To improve your mastery of the English language by being exposed to different linguistic styles, accents and expressions that are typical of the Caribbean

  • To enrich your vocabulary with idiomatic expressions and phrases related to the areas that will be studied (sports, the economy, weather and climate, law, politics, etc.)

    Rates (Tax-deductible)

     

    Tuition fees:                                        US$ 1, 920

    (Early-bird rate closed on November 6)                                        

    • These rates include:
      - Registration and management fees
      - 10 days of classes = 50 hours
      - 12-month access to the online course
      - 12-month access to the interactive discussion forum
      - Transport, entry fees, guided tours for in-programme visits and demonstrations
      - Daily shuttle service between the university campus and your accommodation (within a designated area)
      - Assistance with logistics and sightseeing activities
      - Local sim card
      - Assistance with visa application (if necessary)

    These rates do not include:

    - Accommodation

    - Travel insurance (mandatory)

    Terms and Conditons

    • The programme will be confirmed as soon as registration fees cover the costs of the course (10 participants).
    • If the programme is cancelled, all participants will be refunded
    • In case of withdrawal from the programme, refund will be subject to conditions detailed
